WC Four-in-Hand 2008 'wears well' in Poland
In the beginning of September at the World Championships for Two-in-Hand in Poland, the Dutch participants and their supporters energetically advertised for the WC Four-in-Hand in Beesd in 2008.
The WDC in Warsaw was traditionally opened with the Nations Evening whereby all the various countries presented all sorts of snacks and drinks from their own countries with much music and jollity. Holland not only had delicious cheeses and other typical Dutch specialities to show but they also showed that they were, each and every one of them, supporting the WC Four-in-Hand in 2008. Every Dutch person that evening was wearing the beautiful dark blue sports shirt with the WDC logo!
In the competition days that followed, the WDC sports shirts- that meanwhile had become a desirable item among foreign driving fans- could be spotted all over the competition grounds.
The popular sports shirts are for sale in the DrivingSport stall at Horse & Carriage on 16th , 17th and 18th of November.

Introducing... Julius Peters
The World Championships Four-in-Hand have a number of people who fill key positions: one of these is veterinarianJulius Peters from Appelscha. Peters was, from 1998 to 2005, team vet for the two and four-in-hand horses and, in this function, took close part in various World Championships. In daily life he works as a veterinarian at the veterinary centre in Oosterwolde. Moreover, Peters is part of the veterinary committee of the KNHS. Julius Peters is as ‘veterinary service manager’ responsible for all veterinary concerns in the preparations for and during the WC Four-in-Hand.
Julius Peters explains ‘It is a real honour for me to be allowed to fulfil this function and I really look forward to it. My main task is to make sure that the well-being of participating horses during the competition week in Beesd is guaranteed. That already starts on arrival when the veterinarian checks the horses for the first time. They are checked for runny noses or other signs of infectious diseases and the identities of the horses are checked. As soon as the horses are stabled we can offer veterinary help day and night.. Student vets keep a night watch to detect any possible sick horses. During the marathon day experienced equine vets are on stand-by as a First Aid Post at the marathon obstacles to be ready to help in case of accidents. Lingehoeve Veterinary Clinic in Lienden will be on stand-by for the whole week in case there are injuries or illnesses of horses that need intensive care.
So it is a real challenge to make sure that the horses have everything they need at the World Championships. Meanwhile I have begun with preparations and I’m looking forward to the WDC 2008 with absolute confidence!’
